Dry and Frizzy Hair – the Causes and the Cures
When it comes to hair care, one of the most common complaints is hair that is dry and frizzy. Dry and frizzy hair can be a difficult thing to deal with, and many day to day activities, like sun exposure and frequent shampooing, can actually make the problem worse. To deal with this problem effectively it is important to understand the cause. Once you know what is causing your hair to be dry and frizzy you will be better able to find an effective treatment.
Naturally Curly Hair That is Dry
Having hair that is naturally curly is great, but that naturally curly hair can often become dry and frizzy. If you have naturally curly hair and a problem with frizzy hair, one of the best treatments can be a pomade. These products are available everywhere from your local discount store to high end salons, and they are designed to provide a light level of hold.
Pomades work so well because they contain a small amount of oil, not enough to make hair greasy but just enough to deal with a persistent frizz. The pomade should be applied after you have washed your hair. Put some on your hand, mix it with a little water and lightly move it through your hair. After the pomade has dried it can be combed through for a more natural look and feel.
Permed, Bleached and Damaged Hair
Hair that has been permed or bleached will often become frizzy as well. The same is true of hair that has suffered from excessive sun exposure or too much exposure to chlorine in a swimming pool. To deal with this problem it is a good idea to treat your hair to a deep conditioning treatment. Choose a quality conditioning product that is activated by heat, but avoid any products that contain oil. A gel based deep treatment will work wonderfully for hair that is permed, colored or damaged. Be conservative when applying the treatment – you should not need much for a good result.
Coarse Hair
If you have coarse hair you may find that your hair is naturally dry, and that natural dryness can lead to frizziness. If you do have dry and frizzy hair it is important to use hair care products that are designed for dry hair. Using a shampoo that has been formulated for normal hair could strip out too much of your hair’s natural oils and leave your hair looking frizzy and damaged.
There is no magic bullet when it comes to dealing with dry and frizzy hair. The best defense against this common problem is to determine the cause and tailor the cure to address the underlying issue.
